Yang, the spirit of the east

This journey will take us to the two hot-beds of technology innovation in Asia: Shanghai and Singpaore. We want to understand what makes the region accelerate their innovative edge, we want to feel the vibes of Asian innovation and entrepreneurship, and we we want to comprehend the reasons why Asia is leading the innovation space today.
It is curious how our perception of Asia in terms of technology has evolved over the last decades. We all remember when our perception of Asia was based on cost, Asia was perceived as the main low-cost manufacturing region. ‘Made in Taiwan’ or ‘Made in China’ was seen as a means to find cheap solutions, not innovative answers. The second wave of perception of Asia focused on quality. Companies like Sony and Toyota paved the way to change the perception of the world that Asia clearly stood for unmatched quality, in a wide range of products ranging from cameras to automotive, from home electronics to telecommunications. The famous tagline of Apple products is ‘Designed in California, made in China’, to reassure us that the quality of the iPhones would be top notch.
Today are clearly in the third wave of Asian perception, where Asia is showing globally that this is where the innovation happens. Samsung is no longer the manufacturer of ‘follower’ technologies, but is bringing products to market that are more advanced, more user friendly and more innovative than anything that comes out of Silicon Valley.
