Over 100 LLMs have emerged in China according to a comprehensive list compiled by Adina Yakup on Twitter (July 13th). Amidst our obsession with the big Western models from Google (Bard), OpenAI (ChatGPT) and Anthropic (Claude), we seem to underestimate how fast and how much China has been investing in this area (although many of the models still seem to be in trial mode).

Here are some extra observations of Tony Peng on the list:
- 🤖 Almost half of LLMs come from the capital.
- 🤖 All LLM services to the public are still under the trial mode.
- 🤖 More than half of LLMs don’t even have websites.
- 🤖 A majority of open-source models are built on LLaMa or BLOOM.
