Bart Geers

Bart Geers graduated in Latin and Mathematics at the Sint-Jozef-Klein-Seminarie (Sint-Niklaas, Belgium) magna cum laude in 2003 and in that year he decided to start a master in Pharmaceutical sciences study.

Bart obtained his degree of candidate pharmacist in 2005 and graduated as a pharmacist (Mr. in Pharmaceutical sciences) in 2008 with distinction.

After obtaining his degree in pharmaceutical sciences, Bart started his PhD studies in the lab of Prof. Dr. Stefaan De Smedt and Prof. Dr. Jo Demeester within the Ghent Research Group on Nanomedicines (GRGN) as an academic assistant in physical pharmacy.

After a short period in pharmaceutical industry Bart became manager of the multidisciplinary research platform on nano- and biophotonics (NB-photonics) within Ghent University. During this period Bart gained deep insight in photonics technology and combined his expertise in life sciences and nanosciences to generate new projects merging technology with life sciences.

Currently Bart is incubating a new Spin-off company, which resulted from its work within NB-photonics, aiming at bringing a novel lab-on-chip platform directly to consumers.
