Utility grids of the future
Whether we're talking about water, gas or electricity, the grid of the future will be smart, connected and lean. Gone are the times of centralized production, stable demand and loyal customers. Decentralization, peak load and cost reduction are the new sheriffs in town.
On Day 3 of our innovation program, we'll split the group into water utilities and power utilities both with their own program. In the program below, every trail is marked by either "water" of "power" to make clear which companies belong where. Here ar the main themes of the day:
- Circular economy
- Self-healing grids
- Intelligent Markets & Load Forecasting
- Decentralized production

Blockchain & Energy Storage: enabling decentralized business models
Blockchain is hot and not just because of Bitcoin. The technology, often labeled as "the trust machine", will enable utility providers to re-think their business models. Payments, smart contracts, energy usage, etc. everything can be stored and processed on a blockchain.
Completed with smart (energy) storage solutions, blockchain can revolutionize the way countries think about and work with their utilities. From microgrid to supergrid, from energy-consuming business to self-sustaining village, both water companies and electricity providers will be able to profit from the touchpoint between these two technologies.
